1."Water, water everywhere". Who said that?
2. "Location, location, location". Who says that?
3. "Information, information, information".Who says that?

My answer to the third is: Everybody.

In ancient history, time was divided into certain eras. The Iron Era, the bronze Era, and so on. This current time is the Information Era.

Everything in our life, especially when it comes to making decisions, has been and is and will always be affected by how much information we have:

1. When we make educated guesses.
2. When we make decisions.
3. when we make estimations.

The list is long. Therefore, keeping this in our minds as a true premise, and since the the technology of information is the vehicle to use to improve on the three points mentioned above, then definitely, the only conclusion is: It will immensely enhance your ability to make decisions in an organization, or any other field.

Example: Imagine yourself in a staff-meeting discussing strategy for a product promotion. If you lack the appropriate information achieved, for example, through surveys, you would not be able to participate into the discussion.

The more information you have, the more sound decision you will be a ble to present. Won't this help you when promotion is involved?

If everything in an organization could be quantified and measured we could start the program and go home. But that's not how it is.

Once in a while a magazine (is it Fortune?) compares the return on investment of two teams of stock analysts. One team uses a lot of IT to decide which stocks to buy and sell while the people on the other team, blindfolded, throw darts at a board where each location a dart lands corresponds to a stock buy or sell. My recollection is that it is quite unpredictable which team will win.

Meanwhile in quantum physics, the more acurately you can identify the location of a particle, the less accurate is any measurement of its momentum.

IT readily supports any tendancy to analysis paralysis.

IT works in the realm of objectivity but our creative lives will end if there is no subjectivity. No computer, presently at least, can identify the thoughts you are having and the emotions you are feeling as you read this answer and make a decision about it.

Undoubtedly IT has enhanced our ability to make certain kinds of decisions but it will be foolhardy to rely on it absolutely.

well, you know what a flowchart is, yes? in order to properly manage a department and then the company, it's good to look at the processes that the department does, and how then they affect the company itself.

what you should do is stand back and see what IT means to you. you should be able to find analytical skills among those that you possess. analysis of problematic areas within the functions that any department does is always helpful: you can make a decision then to change that which is a problem.

we know that technology is only a tool to make it easier for those that don't specialize in IT within a company do their jobs better, yes? well, then, you can make decisions on how a job can be done easier and even better than before.

but i really do love flowcharts, since then you use analytical skills to pick apart a whole process. once you see where the arrows are going in the wrong direction, you can make a decision to change the flow.

It allows you to be analytical; therefore, when decisions are needed, you will look at all angles and conditions of any given situation instead of having tunnel vision. When writing a computer program, you start at the end and work your way backwards. This serves the purpose of seeing what you want your end result to be, then taking steps in reverse order to attain the goal.
