So, I moved to Calgary and got a new family doctor. The first thing he does is give me a physical which includes blood tests. Now, I'm on three different drugs for asthma and cholesterol. Today, I go back to renew my perscriptions (?) and he puts me on yet ANOTHER inhaler for asthma, in addition to the other inhaler and the pills.

I don't like being on all these drugs and I'm concerned because he has an interest in a drug store. I don't go to 'his' drug store, but still...

But to go from no drugs to over $2500 in drugs a year because of this one Dr is concerning. I exercise, try and eat healthy, and don't think that I should be on all these drugs. Think it's okay to find another Dr? Will he be offended?

Did you ever stop to think that maybe you're in a worse physical condition than once thought?
After your physical and blood work he had to have seen something that concerned him. Did he go over the labs with you? You should ask to review your labs, and ask him why he put you on another med. These people that are telling you to dump your doctor without knowing why he put you on another asthma medication is crazy! Make an appointment, talk to him, go over your labs, and THEN make judgment.

First of all, I would talk to the doctor and ask him why he is putting you on these drugs. Ask him to explain where you can understand and take notes. Then check on the internet about the conditions he says you have and the medication he has given you. If you don't like his answers or don't believe you should be on these meds get a second opinion. He should not be offended, because people get second opinions all the time.

How will he know? Just go to the a new Dr. Tell him without mentioning any names, tell him exactly what you just told us. He can look at you medications, decide if you do or don't or which drugs you really need. Your other Dr. wont even notice you are gone and one day you might bump into him, you will definately know who he is but he will see you and think to hiself "I know that guy from somewhere" and that's about the extent.

Who cares if he is offended! Get a new doc. He is most likely getting kick backs from the drug company's for the people he puts on the drugs. Get a new doc.

if you had asthmatic attacks earlier, then he must have put you on preventive drugs. if your cholesterol is high i.e.over 300, then again you need preventive drugs.
the point is whether you are feeling better overall in health because of these medicines.
don't discount the doctor's advice off hand. you may of course take a second opinion.

it doesn't matter if he's offended if ur health is at risk, u don't want to be on any drugs if possible, even prescription drugs can mess u up later in life in ways u don't want to know about. switch doctors now

You have the right to seek another opinion from another physician. Don't worry about offending him.
