You can always format it to see if that corrects the problem.
THere is a setting in the drive properties to either make it safe to unplug the drive with slower performance. Or, faster performance while requiring you to run the disconnect utility. The latter is the default.
If you unplugged it while it was being written to, that would corrupt the chip. In that instance, running the error checker to try to fix it. >Right click on the drive letter from the file manager. Select Properties, Select Tools Tab, Select the Error Checker, check both boxes and run> That is for XP.

contact the manufacturer if you have a warranty on it. they definitely will replace it. try formattin it. make sure u use the "safely remove hardware" option everytime u unplug the pendrive. also keep the device unplugged when not in use..
