Ok, so today I had my long awaited appointment. He gave me a prescription for Glocophage/Metformin and he is having me take 1 500 mg pill a day for a week, and then adding a pill a week until I am up to 2000 mg at week 4. He said it could help me lose some weight and it would possibly help me ovulate normally. I have another appointment in 3 months (it seems like forever) and if I am still not more regular then we'll discuss using Clomid or Letrozole. Could someone who has done this before give me some advice? Did the Metformin work well enough on it's own or did you end up having to use the fertility drugs. If so did you lose weight and how much? They did confirm my PCOS and also can anyone explain exactly when the Metformin helps ovulation? Other than losing weight helps. Thanks, also almost on day 39/34 of my cycle. He said to wait a few more weeks and if I still don't start to retest. but I'm sure I'll probably start Monday just to spite me.

Also any advice on taking those horse pills, they're time released so I can't break them, they're huge!
Also as there are no time constraints and I'm only 21 ( 22 in june) he'd rather not have to use fertility drugs and worry about ruptured cysts and stuff.

I did the same thing, ramping up the doseage to 2000 mg after four weeks, though if you're feeling ill, or it's making you really sick, you can go more slowly to reach the 2000 mg. I ovulated during my first month on metformin, but for some people it takes a little more time on their max dose to ovulate. Two friends became pregnant shortly after starting metformin, one in the first month she was on it. I ovulated within two weeks of starting metformin.
The metformin has made me feel a lot better, it's given me reasonable menstrual cycles, and I've lost weight.
You should be aware though, that there's new evidence that clomid may be better at inducing ovulation in women with PCOS. That doesn't mean to stop the metformin, because the metformin helps to manage the regular symptoms of PCOS, and help maintain good health.

I went through this SAME THING. I have PCOS, and I went on the glucophage, it didnt help me ovulate or anything like that. The next appointment that I had, I went on clomid, i told my doc I had a certain amount of time to get pregnant since my husband was going to boot camp, the first time I tried clomid, I got pregnant,. I am pregnant again, and I had to try clomid 2 times, the first time it was 1 dose the second time, it was 2 pills, it works like a charm. Good luck, and tell the doc if your wantint to get pregnant now that you want to just try the clomid while your taking the glucophage. he could have you on that glucophage forever trying to get you to lose the weight and ovulate, and who knows, you could never ovulate on your own. It depends on the cause and on what results you want. Personally I would try to see a Chinese medical doctor as my first choice of treatment then get tested to see if it worked since it's the most natural method. Next hormone therapy, only get hormone therapy from an endocrinologist not a gynocologist or fertility clinic. Last resort surgery. I was once diagnosed with the condition and it later disappeared. I imagine it could have been due to stress. I know not everyone heals spontaneously so I gave the previous recommendations. I believe in prevention and maintenance rather than getting treated once the condition gets bad, so I often visit Chinese medical doctors.

I know Metformin is used for diabetes. I've been on it but I haven't ovulated. Then again I'm a guy so yeah.
