I've worked at the company for a while and have built good relationships with my co workers. My boss is quite overbearing, and although he is quite knowledgble about the business, he is just too intense. I'm just not enjoying coming to work anymore. Some of my coworkers have encouraging me to quit, yet others say tough it out until the end of the next reports, which is in about 4 months. What should I do?

FIND A NEW JOB FIRST!

Write a letter on resignation if you're not comfortable with the face to face thing. Make sure you give at least 2 weeks notice.

Your letter should be about two to three short paragraphs. Explain why you are leaving (make it about you, "I need to move on" etc.) Say that you regret having to make the decision but you must. Try to give 2 - 3 GOOD reasons for your decisions. Make sure that you word it politely and present it in a calm and rational manner. And for GOD'S sake, DON'T write it at work.

If you are not happy don't stay there. Don't listen to other people but listen to your heart. I have listened to other people and stayed at a job where I didn't want to be anymore and toughed it out longer than 4 months and when the time was over I was still miserable. Chances are nothing is going to change. I find honesty the best policy. Go and talk with your boss about how you feel. Can you take some time off? That would be the first thing to do. Take some time off, get a break from the place. If things are the same when you come back if you have the same feelings then make sure to give a 2 weeks notice when you leave.

Write A letter and give them a 2 weeks notice . Write down that you appreciate having learned so much while being there and the positive aspects of the job. Tell them for personal reasons you must leave. conclude by thanking them. no matter if the boss was in the wrong you can't change them but you can leave with a good impression and even if they don't like that your leaving they don't have a reason to bad mouth you because you gave notice and did it the right way.

Find a new job first.

When you do, just give him the "standard" 2 weeks notice. You really don't have to give a reason. It's common to just say that you have decided to pursue new opportunities elsewhere. It is a bit generic but it's honest and doesn't burn any bridges either.

Whatever you do, resist any temptation to be "brutally honest" with him. You never know when your paths may cross again and if you leave on respectful terms he'll still be an ally.

Don't quit until you have found a new job. When you quit, thank him for the opportunity to work, you learned alot, time for a change.
Don't keep confiding in your co workers, it will get back to him and he may make the decision for you.
