response to a persistent telemarketer?
do you just hang up? or do you talk to them
I like to get them all discombobbled by asking them irrelevant questions in the middle of their speach.

i say stuff like this:

"oh im sorry, my daughter is trying to eat the cat.. i really want to hear what you are saying, just please hold on for a minute..."

and leave the phone sitting there until i forget about it, then remember about 10 - 30 mins later..

or if its a sales call i tell them to hold on so i can get my credit card.

sometimes i start yelling
"oh god..."

and that can go two ways:
"..... harder harder... etc.."
---or---
"..... please stop beating me! ill do anything!! just stop the bleading! oh god what are you going to do with that!! NO!! PLEASE DONT DO IT!! NOOO!! DONT DO IT!! OH MY GOD IM GONNA DIE!!!!"

and just hang up

I usually just hang up without a word. I wonder if they keep on talking for several minutes before they get a clue. That would be hilarious. LOL!
I like your idea of messing with their heads by asking irrelevant questions. I might try it next time.

I would be honest with them....tell them you are not interested and please don't call back, but be polite yet firm. I say this because I've had a few sales jobs in which I had to make telephone cold calls, which is basically what a telemarketer does......and after having been on that side of the fence I sort of empathize with telemarketers......they're just trying to make a living........so just be honest and firm, yet polite.

1). Tell them that you would love to talk to them, but "they" won't let you make decisions since you got out of the hospital.
2). Put the phone down and let them talk. After half an hour, they usually hang up.
3). Fake a foreign accent or just make weird noises.

I cried about my husband leaving me alone with five children, about being evicted, my car dying, and how horrible life is and that I just couldn't go on. I said I was so-o-o sorry that I didn't have the money to buy whatever they were selling, but I didn't even have the money to feed all those children. Then I lit a firecracker and let the phone fall to the floor. No one calls me anymore...

yak on about how you have just reached pizza mart! Or you can start crying and talking about your troubles with work, life and significant other, that makes them mad. Or if you actually want to have a life and go on with your work, I like to just get them talking and put the phone down. Then they never even call back!

I told them to hold on a minute, then I turned the TV up a little , put the phone in front of it and went and washed the dishes, when i came back to the phone they were gone. hehehehehe

OMG LOL That's what I do too. I begin by asking them their weight, gpa, body mass index, IQ, and brand of deodorant they use. Some of the tele's will answer every question. It's just too much fun to give up!!

I let them know I am not interested in what ever they are offering. I thank them for calling, because I want to be polite. (even though they call at the WORST times) and then say bye and hang up. Ending the conversation. I am also polite because I guess we all have to make a living.

I am bad, I cut them off and let them know I am busy... Who has time to chat with them when what ever you say, they will say something from their chart hanging on the wall...
What a horrible job...
