you cross multiply
6/.72 = x/.96
6 x .96=.72x
5.76=.72x
5.76/.72=x
8=x
therefore 8 stamps.

if 6 stamps costs 72 cents then that breaks down to 12 cents a stamp....how many stamps could you buy with 96 cents? 96 divided by 12 is 8.....

ok i might b wrong but i think i got it! since you can buy 6 stamps with .72 cents but you have .96 you have 24 cents left over. I divided .72 by 6 and got .12 I guess you can get two more stamps with the left over change!
that'll give u 8 stamps in total

6x96=576
and then solve for x
72x=576
576/72=8=x
x = 8, the number of stamps for 96 cents.
