Classifieds aren't truly intended for a serious business to advertise it's services or products. I think this could be because only bargain shoppers and perhaps mentally unstable folk actively look through the Classifieds for this in particular, because I've tried it twice and experienced considerably frustration and disappointment. So much so, I'll never advertise my services in any Classified section ever again, I still have one account in collections over this mess.

Truthfully speaking I have little room to complain, it's cheap advertising and I got what I paid for, but it's just not worth it.

I run ads in online classifieds. One publication alone has shown my ads over 17,000 times and generated 1200 website site hits and over $900 this month so far. The best thing is that they are free ads. I picked up my first free ad spots at http://ewebsmith.com if you want to get started.

Newspaper ads have become increasingly expensive with a decreasing readership. They usually don't pay to sell a single product. If you have a store, car dealership, restaurant, or something that appeals to the general public they can pay off. You are better off with a publication that targets the market segment that uses your product.

My hubby used to sell glass block in the classifieds. It ran all month in the part of the classifieds where you can look up services (like for a handyman or a builder etc.).
We mostly got crank calls and even one guy who wanted to know if we were "swingers".
I wonder if we accidently broke some sort of classified code for
"If you are a freak please call us!".

So...good luck with that.
