I've never been there, so obviously I'm ignorant of many things about the state (especially living here in Kentucky.) I've heard about the strong liberal tendencies of its politics, the horrible traffic, and smog, but I'm certain the whole state isn't quite like that!

Compared to Kentucky, are the people friendly? Where would be the best place to live if one is coming from the midwest? Thanks!

Since you live in Kentucky and probably have never been to California you will want to visit Los Angeles. It is definitely an experience, and people watching is excellent since it draws a quite diverse but interesting crew. Beaches line the coast, so this should be on your list of places to go. San Diego for the incredible zoo, and lovely people and great food. San Francisco for the many attractions - Peir 39, galleries, Golden Gate Bridge(no pictures will ever do it justice) and street performers.
Regarding "strong liberal tendencies, horrible traffic, and smog" There are programs here to help people probably more than any other state, the traffic is horrible in LA all the time, but not bad everywhere else except during commuter times, and smog only in the cities.
Visit!!

Have gone to CA at least 2 a month for the past 30 years, (Driving a big truck). It is not like you see in the movies, all fancy houses etc. The whole southern half of the state is brown from lack of water. LA is crowded and dirty, but I love LA for their freeway system. For as big as it is it is fairly easy to get around.

They don't call the west coast the left coast for nothing.

CA, OR, WA are all very liberal states. More bleeding hearts per capita than anywhere else in the world LOL.

North CA is fairly beautiful though. Up around Redding, Shasta and Weed are very nice.

Wouldn't ever live there but have enjoyed going there.

I live in Central Florida and know my way around CA better than FL

I grew up in Oregon so I have been to California many times. Its ok to visit but to live its overpriced and the people are rude. I would also never live there cause its a dirty state especially LA and Sandiego are just plain dirty cities. About the only city I do like and is not as stuck up as southern California is
San Francisco. Otherwise I cant stand Californians they are destroying America by moving to other states and making the price of living outragous and bringing their stupid laws to other states that they are not even a native to.

Thirty years ago, California was a nice place. Today, it is a filthy cesspool of liberal radicals. The weather and scenery is beautiful, but overcome by the nuts and fruitcakes that live there. If it should actually fall into the ocean, who cares?

People are pretty friendly here, but I live in a suburban area. Around the beachy areas, people just ignore you.

The suburban areas are quite nice, with friendly, although naive, folk .

California is really diverse.

It's really beautiful here, but with unpredictable weather. It's not always sunny here, you know!

California is modern, casual, relaxed, upbeat, yet cruel and apathetic. (except in suburban areas.)

I love it. Great weather. People arent as nice but...still a great place. You should try to visit it and see for yourself.

Less religious than Kentucky certainly.

I've never lived there, but I"ve been to L.A. It is beautful, the mountains and beaches are the greatest. However, it is different and crowded.

California is the best. People are not mean, they just don't interact with people they don't know.
