That is an entire book.....

Basically, the Russians took most of the casualties and initially caused most of the German casualties. The conflict in Russia ate up massive amounts of resources and manpower from Germany that otherwise would have been available to throw against the Western allies.

Russia was supplied with a lot of arms by the United States - The US, (especially from 1939-1942 before we were an active belligirant) acted as the 'arsenal of democracy' - we supplied a LOT of munitions and weapons and even food to Great Britain and Russia so that they could continue to fight.

Great Britain, after the fall of France, was the only Western nation left fighting the Germans. The Battle of Britain kept a lot of the Luftwaffe tied up while the Royal Navy kept the German High Seas Fleet bottled up - except for their U-Boats, which wreaked havoc on the convoys. Great Britain also provided a launching-pad for attacks on Europe by air, and for the invasion landings.

Once the North African, Normandy, Southern France and Italian invasions happened, all the allies were fighting on the ground - Again, the US supplied most of the weapons and manpower in the ground in the West, with Free Polish, Free French, Free Dutch, suppliing significant numbers of troops and especially the British. The Royal Navy was pretty much an equal partner with the US Navy in the Atlantic.

In the East, the Soviet Union was again the anvil against which the Western hammer was smashing the Nazi troops and again, they took the lion's share of the casualties. They were using a lot of American equipment and American designs.

In the Pacific, the Americans were providing all the muscle in the fight. The Australians, The New Zealanders, and the British providing significant help, but the Pacific War against Japan was pretty much an American show.

Each Ally provided critical help. Even within the occupied nations, local partisans provided a critical drain of troops and resources on the Nazis. For example, a group of Norwegian partisans, trained in Great Britain, ended up destroying the N0rsk hydro plant - Germany's only source of Heavy Water needed for atomic research. Without it, they had no hope of developing an atomic weapon. Sometimes it's the small things that really make the difference. Yugoslavian partisans kept an incredible number of Nazi troopers tied up, the Poles fought heroically from beginning to end. And so on...

Hope this helps!

Yes, I know a lot of info on WWII. I have a degree in history. However, since your question is so incredibly vague, I have no idea what to tell you. What do you want to know? There is enough info on WWII to fill countless books. Be specific.
Regardless, if you to go Google and search for websites on WWII history, you'll end up with WAY more info that is WAY more reliable than most answers you'll get on here.

To understand this war, you will have to look a little deeper - too bad some of the people who answered your question here never did. By the Allies it is meant the nations who fought against the Axis: Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Czechoslovakia, England, France, Holland, India, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, and the United States of America. Look for the Allied Conferences at: Washington, DC, Casablanca, Quebec, Cairo, Tehran, Yalta, and Potsdam.

Basically, they all worked together (with the exception of the Russians only sparingly) to defeat the Axis powers. It was a coordinated effort.
