you should support your local family owned bakery because a donut is about the same on average. this way all the profits stay within the community, whereas with a chain store like dunkin donuts or krispy kreme, the owners of that particular chain had to purchase the rights from the corporation and pay a certain amount of the profits they make to the corporation yearly. this means that most of your money then goes to the corporations and forces the small family businesses into bankruptcy.
also, if you ask a person if they've had a krispy kreme (or any donut i suppose) today, they are more likely to eat a donut that day.

Local. I've had Krispy Kreme and it seemed as though I was eating over-sweetened air. I have also read the ingredients on the Krispy Kreme boxes at the grocery store and was apalled at the ingredients. I won't be eating those things ever. Actually, I would go to Tim Horton's, too. However, I recently tried a local bakery that is now my third favorite place. There is a mom and pop donut shop/diner in a small, private resort town on Lake Erie, OH. They make the donuts fresh daily and the old fashioned way. It's also about the only fried food I eat anymore, too.

Family Owned- There are tons of Dunkin Donuts and 1 Krispy Kreme but there are many more gourmet coffee shops. One of my favorites sells a great Ginger Snap Cookie.

I am a huge fan of supporting your locally owned business. But in the case of this, i am going for Krispy Kreme. I love them!! Although I am on a diet now. I recently gave birth. While I was pregnant I craved Krispy Kreme. And the closest was 45 minutes. So i had to settle for the "fresh" in your local grocery..... Still Krispy Kreme and Still DELICIOUS!!

Here in the Philippines, Dunkin Donuts are all cooked a week or more before they even get to the store where they are sold. Sometimes they have little worms inside .
