I know the answer is probably a resounding NO, but I have to ask. I am always broke, but due to my tax refund, I will have a little extra money. I would like to turn that into enough cash to rent a decent house for myself and my kids and get a reliable car because mine is on it's last leg. Any advice appreciated - smart-*** comments are not. Thank you!

That you, yourself, labeled it a "stupid question" means you know it is. But you're impatient and greedy, like most people.

If you really want to know how to get wealthy, I recommend a book called "The Richest Man in Babylon," by George S. Clasom.

I do wish I could wave my "magic wand" or "twitch my nose" and make that happen, for you and a whole lot of other people, myself included.

What you might be able to do is start a small savings account at a credit union. The average credit union minimum balance in a savings account is $5, so you won't be tying up your money just to have the account open.

For members of credit unions, they will help with financing on car loans and home loans and the rates are usually among the best you can get.

Maybe you could "pinch off" a little from each pay check and add to that little nest egg, even if it's only a small amount. If nothing else, it would make a good "rainy-day" fund.

While it is possible (as people have done it, and legally) the risks would be really high. Like one person suggested, you could try gambleing, and it's possible, if you picked the right stock, or IPO, it could skyrocket that high.

In reality, however, you would be better off saving a little each paycheck and building that up. There are no real shortcuts and those that tend to make money fast will lose it just as fast.
Many of the mexican dealerships have cheap cars that you could buy, so maybe that will be an option.

Depending on where you live or where the house is that you are trying to rent maybe you should shop around! There aree plenty f people who are selling very good relaible cars that you will be able to afford! Also about the apartment find a good one and make sure that you can afford the rent or at least try and put down a couple months rent! Good Luck!
