I'm a young musician trying to get better and better each day. With only 1 and half years of experience people say that I sound like I've played for years. I would like some word of advice of what to practice to increase my skill level

To get better with improv, I would suggest getting to know more about popular chord progressions. These are standard chord arraingements commonly found in different styles of music.

The "12 bar blues" progression is a popular one. It's heard in thousands and thousands of different songs written in many different music styles, from obvious blues to rockabilly to even punk. When a band uses this progression, you will know exactly where the song is heading before you even get there, which is exactly what makes improv playing a lot easier.

Check out the following link. A band actually plays the 12 bar blues and counts it off as they play it.

play the classics. if you can master the modified versions of classical music by pachebell (canon in d), bach, mozart, etc. you can do anything.
