Absolutely! I am an obgyn nurse, and you just need to watch your levels like a hawk...you don't want to drain yourself out. Make sure the baby is getting the proper nutrients...but yes...like all the nurses I work with recommend...breast feeding is the BEST!

To be certain check with your doctor. Everyone's diabetes is different, and it will depend on your overall health status. Keep in mind if you do breastfeed, you will need to maintain the same diet with the extra 300 calories a day to support you and your child. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Also, if you are on insulin or oral hypoglycemics, they may pass into the milk supply, and I don't know for sure. Definitely ask your Doc. God bless.

Yes! Babies were born to be breastfed! All new mothers should take care of themselves as well as their babies, you just need to be a little more careful than most. See if someone (like the daddy or maybe your mom) can come and help with the household chores, especially for the first few weeks. Also, you can contact the La Leche League and find a leader in your area. They can help with all kinds of issues and even make house calls!

Yes it is. Just make sure to regulate your diet and make sure you get what you need to sustain yourself.

But as always, ask your Dr. to be sure of their thoughts. I breastfed and was taking insulin.
