We primarily our tongues allow is to form sounds. You have a voice box but the tongue without the tongue you can't roll your R's of make that clicking sound on the roof of your mouth.

If you wanna talk you need them. There are many words that aren't possibly to say without a tounge. Other then that it woud be kinda odd to kiss you if you didn't have a tounge. and You couldnt lick ice cream of taste much cuz most of your taste buds are on your tounge.
