Just got my first iPod. It has 80 GB of space. I have already used up 30 GB. My laptop where I have iTunes to sync up the iPod is reaching its max. hard disk space. It has only 40GB :-( My question is - do the songs that I have on my iPod have to be on my machine as well? Can I delete them from my machine if I already have them on the iPod? What happens the next time that I sync.?

If you set your iPod to manually sync, then you can have songs on your iPod that aren't on your computer. If you have it automatically sync, it will erase the songs on your iPod that aren't on your computer every time you connect it to your computer.

If you are going to manually sync it b/c it has more space than your laptop (which is the same situation I am in!) I recommend doing one of two things... buy a program called "iTunes Transfer" (which you can buy for $10 at Staples in their $10 software section) or just buy an external hard drive. For a small amount of money, you can get at external hard drive with 80 - 300 + GB of space, and then you can just keep all of your music on that and then some. Good luck!
