Try taking a Hot Bath .. Sounds yicky during this time however decide which is more important at the time... Relieving pain ...

if you don't like that... Try a heating pad that is what I would use.

Lay on your tummy on the floor.. Sometimes the pressure can help.

Granted you said you tried meds however 3 Aleve seem to take away a little pain.

Being acive verses laying around will help... Try going for a brisk walk , come home eat a peice of fruit.. I know sounds crazy... then grab your heating pad favorite blanket and pillow and crash.

And last but not least.... This is gross but it will work... If you are older and sexually active having sex will relieve some pain.. but good luck at that.... Most guys will run! LOL... Try in the shower... Depends how bad you actually feel... Sometimes if they are bad enough this does help.

Secondly, talk to your OBGYN about alternatives ... see what she can offer... She may try some birth control pills to help with the pain.

Good Luck.

First thing, Ibuprofin doesn't work for me, Alieve does though. My mother used to get a prescription of Aleive back when it was not over the counter. It works really well for 12 hours (take 2!) and takes about 45 minutes to work.

An herbal remedy that works is Evening Primrose Oil capsules, ask your health food employees about that if they know their stuff.

Another alternative suggested by my mother who is a physical therapist, is to lay on your back, and put your legs up in the air against something, but not so that they are quite straight. If someone was kneeling in front of you and you had your ankles on their shoulders, that's about where you'd put your legs. Turn your toes slightly in, and that relaxes your uterus enough so that it stops cramping.

You can also go to the doctor because some medical conditions can cause really bad cramps... Not to scare you, but if they're too bad, go to a FEMALE doctor!!

Hope this helps!!

When I was younger, I occassionally got cramps so bad that I almost threw up. I had a nurse tell me to take ibuprofin and use a heating pad. Over the years, I've had many people tell me various other "remedies", but there is nothing that helps as well as those two combined - I promise!

Avoid caffeine especially chocolate....caffeine would make me cramp up more. I used to get really bad cramps too during my period, I hated the taste but Ginger tea helps the blood stop clotting & sooths the cramps. It was the only thing I knew to work. I now treat my daughter with Ginger tea. One can buy it at the health food store, or it may be in your spice cabinet. one teaspoon to 3 cups of water boiled....simmer 15 minutes or so...add honey....curl up with a warm blanket & enjoy the warmth & soothing affects of the ginger tea. It also helps with nausea....

waaaaah!! am suffering from it now! i put heating pads in the pelvic area and lower tummy. you can also buy the stickable ones in stores so you don't need to feel bulky carrying it.

for me, eating chocolate helps...and i don't like chocolates that much.. i dunnu why but it helps. oh yeah, when you feel like fainting, quickly chew on hard candies, it may take around 3-4 pieces for your sight to get back to normal from blackening out. low blood sugar causes this.

another faster relief is drinking hot water.. not warm. a little hotter than warm. hot enough but not to burn your tongue. it's a faster than hating pads because it's from within. gulp it down. not sip.

good luck to us!!! >.<

Pain killers and a hot pack. Some people say caffine helps, but not if you're trying to sleep

You are not very likely to get much help from alternative therapies. Usually NSAIDs (anti-inflammatory) or hormones especially the oral contraceptive will help. Go back to your GP.

Take a prescription dose of either ibuprofen or naproxen and use a hot water bottle.
