He was a sorry excuse for a senator and an American...and drank himself to death...could not have happened to a nicer guy.

Joe McCarthy was an idiot. The history of the United States has never seen such a large persecution of innocent people based purely on fear. I know some will say that President Bush is going after Muslims for no reason, but the Red Scare of the 1950s occurred on a much, much larger scale. Citizens of this country died purely because they were thought to be communists, which really posed no threat to the United States at that time. And, if Joe McCarthy was the best senator ever, why was he censured?

Joe McCarthy was a supercilious paranoid hate filled blowhard alcoholic that ruined a lot of innocent lives. When you hear the term "McCarthy Era?" It's not generally used in a positive way, unless you're talking to the harpy Ann Coulter of course. He was censured by the Senate - and that's only happened three times in our nation's history. The man was a pig.

Having live through the period of time of the McCarthy era he was the worst example of US Senator. His claim to fame was he could name those who were communists creating the Red Scare and playing upon the emotions of the America public.

He true colors were shown when he was on TV and judge Welsh made the comment "have you no honor senator?"

He accused loyal Americans as be American and destroyed the lives of number of citizens.

I guess to Republicans he would be hero!

A Prophet is never appreciated in his own time, America would be a different place a much better place had he prevailed. Having to deal with what he knew was coming and not be able to stop it may have sent him over the edge
