Should I change jobs? I'm not happy where I am. I have been there 6 years and I am a pharmacy tech. It's easy and I'm off on weekends. I have no room for advancement, this is where it ends.
I'm thinking about working for Coca Cola. Its alot harder work, stocking shelves, more money and I would get off earlier in the days. I'm not used to hard work, constantly lifting things all day. I would have room for advancement though.
What do you think?

Hey, I'm a CPhT. I got out of the pharmacy and moved to managed care - office setting is so nice! I love not dealing with cranky customers or the old count and pour.

There are loads of jobs where you can use your pharmacy tech education & experience that pay really well. Most insurance companies hire techs so you might want to look into that. In one year I recieved a raise, bonus and promotion. You can advance at these types of jobs. And best of all there's no heavy lifting!

Good luck to you in whatever job you choose. Take care.

You should change. Maybe not Coca Cola though.

It's really easy to jump ship after 6 years and make a bad decision. So make sure you know everything. Types of Overtime, Benefits, how long people stay in this position vs. quit, realistically how many people get promoted from this position, how long it takes, what department they go to, what you need to do to get promoted, types of education allowance, why you feel the need to leave a cushy job for a new challenge.

When you can get all the answers, and understand why you are ready for a change. Move on, be open to multiple types of opportunities. No one wants to be stale for the rest of their career.

Keep your job for now. Don't make changes there. Do NOT let those particular skills fall the the wayside. But, on the otherhand, shake up another area of your life. You sound bored, but mostly, you really emphazised the feeling of being in a deadend job. So, start scoping out tech degree programs. Just do it. Especially in person, if you can. Trust me. : ) Or, take some weekend or night courses. Keep the job, though. And start shaking up your future. Good luck.

There are always other options. I work from home and have a great career. I actually started part time and went to full time once it took off. The company is awsome and offers 401k, benefits and full training and support. If you are the kind of person who enjoys helping others, maybe it would work well for you to start, get rolling and then quit your job.

You need to decide by thinking of your perfect day at work in 5 years. Now that you have that image in your mind, work backwards. How do you prepare to be that person, to do that job. What does advancement mean to you, more pay? more responsibility/ more benefits?
Good Luck

We spend most of our life working (excluding eating and sleeping) why should we be unhappy most of the time.
If you can change (as long as it is better and money is not the only issue) then do it.
