It comes from the bible, in specific the book of Job. Job was a man that worked hard at his occupation everyday, even when God didn't make doing his job very easy. So Job said "this job blows". And therefore the ******** derived to mean "a job that you got to do, yet it blows(i.e.sucks)". Now the suck job is entirely an different chapter...

There was an article in some fashion magazine about the history of the ********. It originally came from a "below job" (down below) and has worked its way into blow. Just like "How do you do" is "howdy".
