I've never been there, so obviously I'm ignorant of many things about the state (especially living here in Kentucky.) I've heard about the strong liberal tendencies of its politics, the horrible traffic, and smog, but I'm certain the whole state isn't quite like that!

Compared to Kentucky, are the people friendly? Where would be the best place to live if one is coming from the midwest? Thanks!

I live in California! And the people who told you there is smog told you lies! It's actually sunny almost everyday here except for today which happens to be a rainy day. I think the traffic your refering to is the traffic in the busy cities like Hollywood etc. but other than that the other cities in California have mediocre traffic. People are quite friendly, but some can be snobs. but you can tell the snobs from the friendly people. The best place to live would probably the small cities. Check for san clemente or the cities nearby! but the people here are extremely ATTRACTIVE! Hot surfer girls and boys! Yummy... I hope this helped!

I have lived in WA, DE, IL, and CA. We lived in San Diego and hardly ever went to LA because the traffic was so bad it wasn't worth the trip (despite the fact that it doesn't take that long to get there). I found a lot of the people to be pretty self-absorbed, though not as flat out rude as people can be in the northeastern part of the United States. It was very expensive, we couldn't buy a home even though I made decent money.
I enjoyed living there, but it never quite felt like home, it was more like an extended vacation (that lasted 2 years).

California, like any state, has its good and bad. Yes, there is traffic and smog in Los Angeles where i live, but there is also very mild weather, beautiful woman, lots of night life, and a variety of other things to do most anytime of the year. There isn't to many states where you can surf in the morning and be snow skiing in the afternoon. The northern half of the state is less populated and by far more beautiful. Make sure you see Yosemite, the Redwoods, and Big Sur.

California is like a lot of little states. There's beaches, lakes, mountains, waterfalls, deserts, big cities, little burgs, extremely conservative areas (remember, this is the state that had Reagan as governor) and more liberal areas.

Some people are very friendly, some are aloof, some are suspicious. Some are old, some are young.

People only hear about LA, San Francisco, and sometimes San Diego. There's a whole lot more going on.

It's the best! Ok so smog sucks. And the heavy city traffic. But palm trees everywhere, most of the time great weather, theme parks, beaches, mountains..

It is a bit expensive though.

smog is the most hazardous in LA, though the valley gets alot smog from San Francisco therefore giving it the worst air quality in the country. theres alot of illegal aliens who bother you and dont know how to take orders right. i live in Pismo Beach, Ca and i cant say a bad thing about it....well except all the tourist who come and swamp the town.

i live in Los Angeles, and anything below LA is terrible. However, just a fre miles north and California is beautiful. The coast is nearly empty from santa barbara up, and there are also skiing resorts.

I'm from Australia and I would love to go there!
I met an american here and he lived there, he kept saying how good it was and he was pretty cool too!
It makes me think of warm weather, the beach and eating, drinking and partying.
