I am an obgyn nurse, and this is the first stage in begining the birth process! How exciting for you! The cervix softens until it reaches a point where it starts to dialate! So...you probably have a week or less left! Did your doc ask to see you again in a few days? Most likely in the next 3 days you'll start to dialate a bit...then you'll be ready to rumble!

Good luck! At 39 weeks your PERFECTLY on track!

This means that your cervix just needs to thin and dilate.Usually a with woman who is no where near ready to deliver a baby, her cervix will be long thick and closed. This helps keep the baby safe inside.I believe long means that you haven't dropped yet or something like that.Babies come when they are ready ,good luck!

It means it is getting ready to thin out so that you can deliver the baby- it's a good thing.

MOst of the time, our cervixes are hard- not like a rock, but firm.
