No, not too old, but the window is definitely closing for the core group they have now... they are all really old! They still could compete this year, but I think they are in for a retooling after the season. They will milk the Bonds homer chase for one more year, then bring in some younger guys as Bonds, Vizquel, Klesko, Durham, Aurillia, Roberts, Ortiz, Benitez, and Morris all reach the end of the rope. They will rebuild around Zito next year, win or lose... I think.

unfortunatelly, they simply are not a good team and they lack the offense necessary to compete, the bullpen isnt great either. though playing in the NL West means that any team can compete. still the padres and the dodgers will probably pull out ahead of the pack.

there is some room for encouragment in the giants: cain, lowry and henessy are good young pitchers and with a good, though vastly overpaid zito, the starting pitching isnt half bad.

no
they are not to old to compete for the playoffs. They play in the national league west which is easy and they have all components necessary to win ball games. They have a good line up with bonds (as long as he stays healthy), dave roberts, pedro feliz, and randy winn. thier line up has speed and power.
They have a plus pitching staff with zito, cain, and lowry
as long as thier bullpen can produce they will be fine
Thier defense is one of the best in the major league with vizquel, and many other potential gold glovers.
i think they are going into the playoffs and if they play well may advance pretty far

old is not as big a factor as their pitching. they always have the chance for post season if everybody is healthy at the same time to get to post season in the fairly weak NL West. But pitching is what gets you the world series ring, and as we saw against the Angels a few years ago, that fell apart and so did the dream of a ring.

a lot has to go right for them. their old lineup needs to stay healthy, their straters need continued improvement, and Tim Lincecum needs to start the season in the bullpen. they can compete if those things happen, but don't count on it. looks like the dodgers division to lose.

yes. they have no real consistent run producers...other than that freak show that is barry bonds...and who knows how long it is before he collapses. They have no legitimate closer, and really no consistency in the bullpen...so it just doesn't look good. they have a few bright spots to look forward to (Cain, Lincecum, Wilson, Sanchez) but other than that they are all washed up.

in that division there is no such thing and the aren't that old. They have probably the youngest staff in the league and only four old players starting

Yes!

They will have too hard of a time staying healthy for the whole season.
