I don't know anything about the flag. But I know about the northern women say you can, and the southern women say you all can.

I am a Texan. I do not understand why people love the rebel flag. The South lost the war. Not only that, they almost tore apart the nation. I don't think that everyone loves the rebel flag is raciest but on the other hand, I do not understand why. I will always be proud of the American flag.

while I am a true southerner and very proud of my heritage i did finally take the flag of my truck for one reason I heard on the radio back when the big **** was going on a few years ago. and that reason is we lost what happens when you lose a war they take your flag down and put there's up! does that mean I am less proud of my southerness no i just realized the futility of displaying the flag and fight with uneducated people about it.I think the fact that people play the its racist card are the most uninformed just because a bunch of dumb asses use it for there symbol that makes it bad? well the black panthers(a predominately violent black rights group) symbol is a raised fist so every time i see that can I call racism?

It is called a rebel flag because of it's symbolic meaning. It is offensive because of it's meaning. We are no longer a divided nation (at least not due to slavery) but the United States of America, one nation under God. To me it just states that there are prejudices that are not buried and they should be. It's not a proud heritage to recall why the civil war was fought and since the victors of a war fly their flag, it's time to bury the flag (and hatchet) and just keep the best of the southern ways of American life. We aren't forgetting our history or being less proud as Americans for doing so. I am white, southern, natural born citizen with ancestors who fought and died in the civil war and I find it disrespectful.

Some people dont even actually know the rebel flag isnt the flag that represented the CSA. The x flag was a battle flag. Great, great, great, Uncle John Belle Hood. My Uncle fought for the CSA, lost a leg at Chickamauga and an arm at Gettysburg.

Considering how history turned out, I would say the flag represents losers. You lost the war. Why would you be proud to wave the flag of losers? I don't think the French still raise the white flag of surrender, just because its part of their history.

We should be proud of the flag, but making it a part of being ugly to discriminate against people is wrong I think it has gotten out of hand! It is a flag of accomplishments not to be mean!

It is a part of our history. I dont personally feel the necessity to display it on everything but some people do and thats ok. Its no different from black people wearing african robes to celebrate their heritage or asians wearing kimonos or anything like that. Everybody knows that the forming of the confederacy and the civil war did not take place because white people didn't like black people. It was over states rights. I really dont understand why black people find it offensive.

shouldn't bother anyone either
this is something that blacks have turned bad
like the 'n' word
in the dictionary it means an idiot
it has nothing to do with black people
same with this flag...
its just a flag used over 7 generations ago

I'm a southerner, born and raised.
While the Confederate flag is most definitely part of our history, it is still offensive to many people. To most, it represents a time of great injustice and hatred toward blacks, and other ethnic groups. The KKK embrace it as a symbol of such things (and don't give me that guff about the War of Northern Aggression).
Do the Germans still have swastika stickers on their VW windows? No. Yet that red and black flag still represents a very important part of their history, albiet bad.
Why would you want to fly a flag that brings hurt to so many people? For the sake of history?
They say history repeats itself.
