we can see the old network on the 'Avaliable Wireless Networks' and connect to it. However, we can't get internet connection to it, and we don't know to change the network name and create a password. I've looked and I don't have a disc that matches the router.

Where do I start?

First research you router and read manual and/or instructions

Start>Run> Type "cmd" > Enter/Ok
Type "ipconfig /all"
This will show you all your network info
Look for your Gateway IP

Once you have that type the gateway IP into your browser.
You should be prompted by a password menu
Usually the default passwords are "admin" "default" "password"
Don't worry about the Username/Network name

Now once you are in the router's firmware application should open up to you. Check all the setting.

If you are using software included to connect wirelessly use the software and not Windows OS software.
When Windows Wireless options come up click advanced and choose not to use Windows to connect wirelessly. (Ensure router setting have wireless connectivity enabled.)

Other than that hit us back with more info if nothin works

Good Luck

it incredibly is quite trouble-free. The gadgets are chained jointly, it incredibly is as follows: out of modem (ISP gadget) into router(accessible everywhere) out of router into community card yet there is not any longer some thing to be hectic approximately. in case you get enable's say a Belkin router the deploy utility performs a nifty video for you and the deploy is bullit evidence. Do set up the secure practices on the WiFi whilst you're incredibly no longer using a router for an extensive-by potential of WiFi and are in simple terms going with a WiFi card than the entire deal is far much less confusing. Even a on the spot USB gadget. You link at as quickly as away such as your on the spot provider. I in lots of situations in simple terms grab the 1st public on the spot circuits

It has nothing to do with changing the networks name. You need to enter the routers configuration screens, usually by opening a browser and typing 192.168.0.1 into the address bar.

Then you need to setup the router to connect to the new internet provider. If you are using a cable nmodem select the dynamic IP address option. If you are using a DSL modem select the PPPOE option and input the username and password your roommate uses to connect to his internet service.

Try accessing the router setup via your Internet browser- try http://192.168.1.1

(or whatever address shows as your gateway)
