you are hanging out where there are cardinals or scarlet taningers. thats all, i used to see them all the time, but now i live in the desert south west and they arent here.

It means the light reflected from the bird stimulated the right cones in your eye (or rods, i dont remember which one sees color) and made your brain say "hey! thats a red bird!" So basically the pigment in the birds feathers was red. anything else?
