I cannot decide on whether to major in Chemistry or Biology. I want to go to med school and be prepared for MCATs. I am more interested in Chemistry, but which of the 2 majors do you think would be better to go to med school?

Do you think premed is a better choice? I was thinking the Chemistry or Biology because it is actually something, whereas premed isn't really a major, but a declaration of the intent to go to med school.

Any positive imput will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! ♥

Honestly you can major in anything you want. Med schools like majors that stand out and give you an "all rounder" type of educaiton.

Chemistry and Biology are good courses but to major in them you need to take alot of different types of chem and bio classes that may even be irrelevant to med schools.

And also some of the higher courses in chem and bio are hard and you dont want tot ake the risk of lowering your overall gpa if you take the courses that you really dont need just to complete the major.

So if I were you I would take alot of science courses and major in smoething that interests you. For example if psychology or even history interests you go for it...

because when it comes to the MCATS you will have to write an essay which may have to do with something other than science-same as the med school interview.
They willa sk you alot of questions on current events and other different views related to social sciences and humanities.

But just in case you don;t get in med school you need a major where you can make a career out of it. So its your pick on what you want to major in...and between Chem and Bio-go for a topic that interests you.

Biochemistry or premed are the most helpful when it comes to getting into med school and will prepare you the most for the classes you will need to take for your MD. You'd be better off doubling in Bio and Chem than picking one or the other if you want to be competitive when it comes to applying for med schools.

As odd as it may sound many people find Food Science to be a good major to prepare for medical school. There are many common courses (Chemistry, Biology, Math) and if you change your mind about going to medical school there are a lot of career opportunities in Food Science. Purdue, Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Minnesota are three good programs.
