I was told that the reason my vehicle keeps stalling when i press the gas pedal was the muffler is all clogged up. *advise from a local machanic* at first we thought it was the fuel pump. Any advise anyone??

Most of the time if you have a muffler that is clogged.. it is clogged up with parts from the self destructed catalytic muffler ahead of it.. you probably will have to replace both.

An automotive vacuum gauge is used to determine if the muffler or cat are clogged. You have it hooked up to a known constant vacuum source on the engine. While the vehicle is in Park, rev up the engine and hold it at 2500 RPM and observe the meter. If the vacuum gauge started out at say 17-22 and drops down to a lower part of the gauge then you have some blockage and the cat or muffler parts need to be removed to check for blockage. Also look for a dent in the exhaust system where a pipe might be bent or crimped. I have seen several Explorers with bent tail pipes near the back bumper.

I have never heard of a clogged muffler. I have heard of a clogged catalytic converter, but that wouldnt cause your engine to stall. I think you hit it right the first time with the fuel pump. Have the fuel pressure checked at the injectors.

Forget about the muffler. You have a fuel delivery problem. You don't say what kind of car you have so this is a pretty generic answer.
