According to Ancient Egyptian folklore it is good luck to find a feather anywhere on the ground.
Whenever I find one I now instinctively pick it up and keep it.
It means that Horus the Hawk son of Isis and Osiris has passed by.
His positive force can only mean good things according to Egyptian mythology.
I was working in one of the temples in Egypt, checking wall reliefs for damage, and felt a really cool breeze brush by me.
This was in the heat of mid morning and it was a very still day.
Then a feather fluttered down and landed next to my left foot.
Sure it probably was disrupted from somewhere by the breeze. But why did it flutter straight down and not go with the breeze?
Anyway, I kept that feather and broke all sorts of customs rules by bringing it back from Egypt.
That was a few years ago and since then I always pick up a feather, just like some jump cracks in the footpath.

In mythology and folklore it is supposed to mean that you have been visited by an angel (apparently it should be white...you didn't mention the colour).
You can even ask your guardian angel for a sign if you think they are around somewhere... and a feather is supposed to appear.

Personally I go along with the get a new pillow answers but you never know!

Well, in my own personal system of good luck signs, a feather means a change for the better.

It means you didn't pick up very well after your last pillow fight; your loosing some of your stuffing! Either that, or you have a bird in your room that is molting.

A bird must have entered the house. According to a tale I was once told that is supposed to mean someone that lives in the house is going to die soon. Let us hope it is not you.
