I may be diagnosed with it if my BP doesnt come down, they also found protein in my urine. I am only 18 and a half weeks, they typically dont diagnose PE until 20 weeks. Anyone out there with advice or stories they want to share? I need some inspiration. Anyone have it and deliver a healthy baby?!

I had severe preeclampsia. They didn't detect it until I was about 25 weeks along, but I KNEW something wasn't quite right at about 20 weeks. But it was my first pregnancy that had gone that far, so I just thought what I was feeling was normal pregnancy stuff. They put me on bedrest at 25 weeks, but eventually it just got worse and worse (that's what it does), and at 27 weeks, I had to deliver my daughter by emergency c-section because I was on the verge of seizures or even possibly a coma. And although my daughter was 1 lb. 14 oz. and 13 1/2 inches at birth, she was a fighter from the beginning! She had a very long struggle, and a 4-month stay in the NICU, but she's now 13 months old and doing AMAZINGLY well. =)

I do NOT want to scare you by saying all that though!! My case was severe...most cases of preeclampsia, when caught early, are able to be managed much better. You should be on bedrest and really just TRY to relax. Don't let people around you who upset you, don't watch upsetting things on tv, just try to hang out in bed and relax. Some women are able to go full-term with preeclampsia, if caught early and given the proper care and following doctors orders. It just depends on how badly you have it. At any rate, definitely report ANYTHING you feel to the doctor...if you have any new symptoms, or if any go away, etc. Even the little things that you think don't make a difference. The fact that they're aware of your blood pressure issues this early can actually be a good thing for you, and I hope they can manage it and that you'll be able to deliver a healthy baby! I'll pray for you and your baby...I'm not religious at all, but I'm spiritual and I do believe in the power of meditation, prayer, and good thoughts helping people.

I had it with both of my girls. The 1st was diagnosed at 35 weeks, and she was 7lbs 5oz. Perfectly healthy. The second pregnancy was diagnosed at 22 weeks, and she was 6lbs 15oz and perfectly healthy as well. Both times I was able to keep working as long as I kept my BP at a normal high. It usually stayed around 140/90-98. If it went above 150/100, I was grounded. Try scheduling your appts first thing in the morning. Because afternoon and evening appts, your BP will be up. I also found that doing some deep breathing right before they took it, helped to lower it some as well. One more thing, when they used a larger BP cuff, it was always lower than when they used the standard size one. Hope that helps some.

I was diagnosed at 19 and a half weeks when I was preggers with my son. My BP was BAD! and I had the protein in my urine. I was put on bedrest for the rest of my pregnancy. It sucked but if it is what they tell you to do then do it. They said laying on my right side would help, lower your salt intake and drink plenty of water. I was put into the hospital at 34 weeks because my bp was dangerously high and then at 35 weeks they decded they didnt want to wait any longer. I was given a c section and my baby had a few things he was slow at at first...eating, had a few breathing problems at first...but yanno...these people at the hospitals are trained so well in all of this. This is their daily life. They took excellent care of him and he is healthy and thriving at 2 years old now. dont let this scare you. Just do what your doctor says and follow his rules and ALWAYS go to your doc appointments and you will be fine. Good luck and god bless you and your lil one :)

Sorry to say, but you already have preeclampsia since the definition of preeclampsia is high blood pressure and protien in the urine. It is unusual to have preeclampsia so early, but not impossible...

I had preeclampsia in one pregnancy and high blood pressure in two. My first pregnancy I was put in the hospital at around thirty weeks because my blood pressure did not respond to bedrest at home. I was not placed on any special medications, but labor was induced at 36 weeks after a amnio proved the baby's lungs were mature. My son is now sixteen and a straight A student. My other two--I was placed on bedrest, which successfully controlled my blood pressure and both delivered without trouble and are both perfectly healthy.

If you are not on bedrest now, I would expect to be soon. I've also been told that they have begun to treat high blood pressure in pregnancy with medication, but since you already have preeclampsia, it is most likely too late for that. The best thing to do is to rest and keep that baby where it is for as long as possible because the longer the baby is in utero, the better chance of survival it has.

Good luck...

Yep, except mine went undiagnosed. My daughter was delivered by emergency C-section six weeks early when it was discovered that I had borderline toxemia. I was freaked out beyond belief, but she was fine, and 5 lbs, 15 ozs when the doc thought she would only be 4 pounds! Don't get too upset and worked up because that will only make things worse-try to stay off your feet and do everything you can to de-stress. I personally believe that my problem was at least partially caused by my job. Anyway, my daughter is now 2.5 and I had a baby boy in October with no preeclampsia whatsoever. Good luck and stay calm!

i had it my daughter was delivered at 34 weeks basically you should limit salt and stress and try to lay down as much as possible on your sides i forget which one is better also buy an at home bp machine they are only like 30 and monitor your own bp to make sure you are not getting it too high if you rest and your bp goes down it will also help your kidneys heal so that you wont spill protein in your urine good luck and email me if you have any questions about my suggestions

Yes i had it. I believe i had found out that i had pre-eclampsia when i went into labor at 33 weeks which was stopped by medications. They put me on a high blood pressure pill (Procardia) and i had headaches & was dizzy alot. They were going to go ahead though and let me have my son at 33 weeks if his lungs were mature but they weren't. (They done an amnio on me).
I went into labor again at 35 weeks and they did try to stop it but the fluid around my son was really low so they done a c-section on me. He was born healthy weighing 4lbs, 15.6oz and was 17 inches long. He did not have to be in the hospital no longer than i did (3 days), he had no problems whatsoever.

Good luck and Congrats!

ADD: I forgot to mention that my hands, feet, legs and face were swollen bad and they did put me on bedrest between those two weeks when i was 33 weeks until all of a sudden i went into labor again.

I don't have it, but I have the high blood pressure. I'm on bedrest til the baby is born...my baby measured small at my last appt and it made me a little sad, but I've heard a lot of people have had preeclampsia and did just fine.

I really hope you dont have it. My cousin had it, and had to be enduced early, but you are far to early for that, so you would be put on bed rest. They thought that my gf had it at 39 weeks, and they put her on bedrest, her bp just kept climbing. She never managed to quit smoking while she was prego, so when she was in the hopsital on bedrest she wasnt allowed to go smoke, it just made her bp climb. She eventualy got out of bed against doctors orders and had a smoke, her bp came down and she got to go home. Good Luck.
