if the clothes have been washed before you can put them all together but its better to put colors with colors and whites with whites to preserve their color. you can look on the tags of the items to see what should be used but generally colors should have cold water and whites should have warm or hot water. measure out how much detergent...capful, etc (look on back depending on how much clothes you have), put in washing machine, set machine to normal wash or gentle wash depending what you want, put clothes in and shut door.
for dryer just put in dryer and set to normal dry (usually takes about 50 minutes or so). If you have bras I recommend letting them air dry instead of putting them in the dryer to save the material

They make laundry detergents so color safe these days that you could probably just put all your clothes together in one load (if it fits in the washer without cramming it in) and not worry about the colors bleeding. However, if you just bought a brand new bright red shirt, you should wash it with only red-type colored clothes the first one or two times just in case. (It's better than getting pink underwear.) If the detergent says color-safe bleach, then it's color safe, but I would only use that one when you have stains you're trying to get out. The only other rule of thumb is not to mix towels with regular clothes, because the fuzzes from the towels can get stuck in your sweaters and stuff.
You usually have to set the size of the load (medium is half the washer full of clothes, large is a full washer), the temperature of the water (the hotter the water, the more likely your colors are to bleed, but warm water should be fine for most color loads), and the type of load (regular/normal soil setting is fine for most clothes). Check the tags on your clothes for the care instructions. If any of them say hand wash, then you should use the washer's gentle cycle. Otherwise, the regular setting is okay. If your clothes say dry clean only, do NOT wash the clothes in your washer unless you want to risk ruining the fabric. Fuzzy sweaters and t-shirts with decals should be turned inside out, and zip-front sweaters should get zipped up so the zipper doesn't snag other clothes in the washer.
You usually have to push in the dial on the washer, then turn it to the correct setting, then pull it out again to start the water. Then measure and pour your detergent into the washing machine (never mix detergents). You can pour it into the dispenser or right into the washer, if it's a top loading washer. Then dump all your clothes in, close the washer, and wait for it to be done!
You should also check to see if any of your clothes are supposed to be hung up or laid flat to dry instead of being put in the drier, because they might shrink in the drier. Sometimes jeans can shrink, so I like to pull mine out when they're half dry and hang them up to finish drying. Always set the drier temperature to low for clothes, and you can use the high setting for towels, since you don't have to be afraid of your towels shrinking.

Wash darks together. For example Reds and blacks, some browns depending on the care label instructions. (check all labels for water temperature). Some brown clothing may say wash in warm water. Wash plain whites in Warm water with bleach. I usually let them soak in the water/bleach for about 30-60 minutes depending on how soied they are.
White clothes with print on them, I usually just wash in cold without the bleach or with color safe bleach.
Pastel color clothes(pink, blue, yellow, etc) I wash in cold water.
REMEMBER look at the care instructions on the garment. b4 you do any washing. Except for Jeans, which I wash in the regular cycle, I was all my clothes in the gentle cycle to prevent tearing.
As for the amount of water to soap, it's a trial and error thing. What I usually do is fill the machine based on a small load, then put my clothes in, if it looks like the water doesn't cover the clothes then add more water, usually you do this by adjusting the nob for load size.Fill unitl the water covers the top of the clothes. Add soap,a little at a time, til it becomes a water soapy mix, not to much soap. just enough to wash the clothes, otherwise you will be rinsing forever. GOOD LUCK!

If all your clothes are different fabrics and care labels ,gather all whites and wash together with a detergent of your choice,Your jeans should be all washed together depending on color turn them inside out wash about 4 pairs together,I would do the undergarments separately from everything else on a delicate cycle, your colors can all be put into together on a 40 degree wash I'd also turn these inside out ,and if you have any woolens do them in a cold Wash and stretch back into shape when wet, I wash all my clothing and bedding inside out, And check all your pockets for tissues and that sort of thing.

Bachelor Laundry:
1 pile - Colors/Jeans
1 pile - Whites
When in doubt: Wash in cold. Less chance of bleeding.
Bonus: Bachelor Ironing
15 minutes in the dryer, Permanent Press, with a damp towel.

if you have anything that is new ,its best to wash it alone the first time and add salt to the water ,to set the color ,and navy and black should be washed inside out to help keep it from fading .i would keep the whites and light colors together .and after jeans are washed a few times there is no dye and you can add dark colors with them.i save on power by hanging things on hangers from the washer .they dry pretty fast

Put all the whites, grays and yellows together and wash them on HOT wash, cold rinse.
Do the jeans with other dark colors, blues, greens, and dark purples. Warm wash, cold rinse.
Do the remaining colors on warm wash, cold rinse.
Color safe bleach will work on all.
