Everytime I start my computer I get message saying "an error has occured" "this program needs to close" "anything that you may have been working on will now be lost" and then it says "msvcrt.exe"

I have a feeling this might be a virus and I have scanned my computer with Trend Micro PC-Cilllin Interet Security and it hasn't detected any viruses. Anyone know what this is?

Malware
The six or so people who got this wrong probably confused this with the generic MSVCRT , which without the .exe is MicroSoft Visual C Run Time, which was needed for a lot of programs to run

click on start>click run and type in msconfig. goto startup and uncheck everything except your anti virus and click ok and reboot and see if you get the error. some program you installed is malfunctioning

but as a google search on msvcrt.exe shows it could be W32/Tilebot-Q - Worm - Sophos threat analysis do an online scan just to be sure .

msvcrt.exe is rootkit W32/Tilebot-Q.
msvcrt.exe is used to hide files, processes and registry.
msvcrt.exe is a kernel mode rootkit.
Rootkit contacts remote hacker server using HTTP session.
msvcrt.exe spreads via open network shares.
msvcrt.exe opens a back door on IRC channels.

etc. etc. pretty much your computer has a virus and or is being hacked...you need a "rootkit killer" of sorts...there are some on the internet or you could get a computer guy to help....look here...

It's most likely a missing file from the startup.

It is not a virus.

You should download Spybot S&D and take off any item that you have on startup. This should solve your problem.

Note: You must be in advanced mode to use this feature.

A link for downloading this program can be found below.

Sounds like windows is having trouble booting. Try a clean sweep of your system and reinstall.

Use a Anti-spy ware.
