Read your router manual and find out how to set the security on it!

If you have a router, and I assume you do, call the router manufacturer - there will be an 800 number with your papers - and have them help you set up WPA security with a password. The cable company can't do squat about someone stealing your broadband signal, since it can't be proven who it is. And it isn't their responsibility, it's yours. It's your cable connection and your computer.

I went through that at my apartment complex. I knew who was doing it, but couldn't prove it, so I just took the signal back from him and stopped broadcasting a signal. My security is tight now, and yours can be too. If you have wireless and it's either unsecured or only has WEP security like mine did, you can expect someone to go searching for the signal.

Open internet explorer, firefox, or whatever you use. In the address bar type in the network address of your router. you can find this at start, programs, accessories, system tools, system information. Scroll down to components, network, adapter. Find default ip gateway that is the address of your router. Once you type that into the address bar of your browser it should open up your router settings. go to security, and see what is available on your router.

Call your cable company and tell them that you think that your neighbor is stealing your connection. They will check it out for you. If you're correct, the cable company will press charges against your neighbor.
