Go to http://pclinuxos.com and download the CD that replaces Internet Explorer - and Windows.

Unfortunately, Windows has turned into spyware itself, implemented through - among other things - Internet Explorer 7. IE7 CANNOT be removed. The spyware IE7 introduces [reporting to Microsoft and validating your Windows installation under penalty of disabling applications] is PERMANENTLY inserted into your operating system.

If you remove IE7 as explained by others, then re-download IE6, STILL IE7 is there. About all you accomplish is getting rid of the quirky implementation of tabbed browsing. Best to download Firefox, which is many times more flexible and secure.

The alternative - ignoring Windows updates - is not practical due to the depth of harmful exploits against out-of-date Windows. So, become pragmatic. Look into ditching Windows for Linux, at least by installing a dual-boot system.

My new Dell Inspiron 1501 loves Linux. It's a wireless wonder for all kinds of programming, web activity and photography. The "other" operating system that is there was included whether I like it or not. Windows is that "other" system that I seldom boot - and then mostly to investigate questions like yours for my clients.

The only thing is that you'll have to download IE6 again because microsoft replaces it's backup IE6 with IE7.
