Love the movie, but I think the book's a million times better (although that might have something to do with my being a guy :P).

Anyway, the language is very Victorian, titchy, and hard to get used to. Some people might say that reading such flowery text is what makes it an Austen book, but that's really a matter of opinion. I'd say If you can make it through the first 100 pages without losing focus, you'll enjoy the book. I'd place it at a college level.

As for what it's about... well, it's kind of a parody of the battle between eighteenth-century classes in the search for love. Both sides have these preconceived 'prides' and 'prejudices' regarding other social classes (for example, a rich mother probably wouldn't want her daughter married off to some dirt-poor guy).

And as for the main character. Lizzy Bennett--well, her one fault is her tendency to overanalyze relationships and these prides and prejudices, so her finding true love is somewhat of a joke and at the same time all the sweeter.

In my opinion, it's a great novel because it's capable of making light of all the formalities of eighteenth-century courtship and pulling everything together into a love story in the end nontheless.

If you're considering reading it, I highly recommend it.

It's a lot like the movie, but I definitely prefer the book.
It's basically a love story located in the old England, around the time where women's only goal in life was to get married and get their daughters married afterwords. Pride and prejudice make falling in love more difficult, specially between people from different social status, they get in between relationships and end up messing everything up... Of course, as most love stories do, everything turns right in the end and people live happily ever after, or at least as happy as they can be...

i say its pretty close to the movie at some parts. im not completely finished reading it and know that i will have to read it again once im finished to get a better understanding of it all.

as for age range, nothing below a high school level, and even then, you have to be pretty good at interpreting and understanding what the author is saying. if your looking for a light read, this might not be the novel your looking for...
