Definitely go for electric guitar or the drums. They're awesome; they sound AND look great when you play 'em. })({*

if you play the piano, and are any good, you must have a decent understanding of music that can take you in a variety of different ways. I've been playing the piano since I was 7 (24 now) and when I hit high school, I branched off into 3 more instruments, guitar, saxophone, and drums. Two years ago something musically sparked inside of me and I learned to play bass, harmonica, and recorder. Why not try it all? Banjo, violin, and xylophone are next on my list.

If you're seriously into music AND have some aptitude ::
1. Take classes in composition harmony, and arranging. A composer can have played every instrument. Do you know, for instance, how the accidentals on an orchestral harp are produced? How to layer 6 flute sequences into one?
2. Take more classes in piano and guitar.
3. The computer.
I personally don't think the future of playing instruments is in playing the actual instrument, unless you want to.
I think the future is in The Logic Program and a Mac! If you have aptitude and desire don't waste your time playing them, write for them.

Flute? Asian bamboo flute or Western Metal flute? Pretty good. My best friend in middle school played the opposite of the instrument I played, but that was like 7 years ago, Western flute for her and Asian Bamboo flute for me. The Chinese flute, Dizi, aka the Shinobu-e (Shinobu-aye) or Takebu-e of Japan, in G-note, can play a sharp, crisp, melodious sound liks the chirping of a bird.
The guitar is very good and could allow you to play a variety of musical styles. You might want to check out a few of Eric Clapton's pieces, especially one guitar piece he composed for a Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer movie. Yeah, definitely a guitar, it looks cool and it cool to carry around.
Next, you might want to give a shot for Shamisen (aka 3 flaboured strings), a three stringed Japanese Instrument. Delicate, beautiful, when strummed, it comes with a powerful sound. The Yoshida brothers were famous Players of Shamisen and their master piece are :
1. Kodo, inside the sun remix
2. Rising (u could download them online)
Percussion: drumming and handling drums totally tones out your arms, not just creating a rythm your body will slowly becomes accustomed to follow. And the Biceps too!

Harmonica. She's a little peculiar and has been overshadowed by many of her cohorts.
