So I am a Sophomore in High School and I'm reading Huckleberry Finn and when I read it, it seems that everything goes in one ear and out the other, (in this case eyes...you know what i mean) in other words it's a bit hard to understand and I have to do this big essay about if it should be banned from our school and I am still not sure what side to take...I'm leaning towards the "don't ban the book" side.

Any advice?

I am a junior and am reading Huck Finn currently as well. If you are having trouble understanding the story, I would suggest reading the book along with sparknotes.com or gradesaver.com. They help to summarize each chapter, but also explain the main concepts.

If I were to write the paper, I would take the "don't ban the book" side as well. I would defend it citing that it is an accurate account of America at the time, and it is a strong satire of the country. You could state that the hypocrisy, racism, and religion in the book stand as examples of "what not to do".

Well, the thing that makes Huckleberry Finn somewhat controversial is the fact that the language is foul, and it deals with every issue that the school system has a problem with. (Jim the Slave running away, the Drunken Father, foul mouth, etc.)

check out some mark Twain, that will help you understand
You will then learn who Mark Twain actually is. I did this in college and it was very interesting

my advice is that you should try to understand it or read it to your self , that way you will feel comfortable reading it so it can be available easier.
