My 4 month old has always hated tummy time, we can’t go longer than 5 minutes without starting to cry. We have a play mat, I put toys in front of her and help her to push up but nothing works. She can’t roll over, but can turn from side to side. Will she learn to roll over without tummy time? Does that jeopardize her chances of crawling? Thanks.

No she will be fine. My baby wasn't fussed on tummy time and she still rolled over, crawled and walk and was quite early for all the milestones. Some babies just dont enjoy it especially if they have a bit of reflux. Just keep giving her 5 mins here and there. She will eventally roll over and do it herself. I think tummy time is a bit over rated they will do everything in their own time anyway so don't worry about what people think is the norm. Because they are all different but will eventually get there.

My son had maybe 20 minutes of tummy time total (he hated it so i didn't make him) and then he just rolled over one day. I couldn't believe it considering he was never on his tummy. Now he is seven months and almost crawls, he just has to lift his tummy off the ground a little more. He pushes with his legs and pulls with his arms to get where he's going. He is also a much happier baby now that he can move around

She may be a bit to small for tummy time yet, every infant develops at differnet rates. If she has trouble lifting her head up, and seems to be more having her face squished down in the floor/play mat then I would wait another month.

The general age is 4-6 months but she should be able to lift her head up by herself without a lot of trouble for short periods of time.
If your baby can do this then I wouldn't worry to much about it, just keep at it. Most babies fuss in this postion for a little bit because it is a bit of work but they get used to it.

When a baby is laying on their back they don't use the same muscles as when they are on their stomach. A baby can learn to crawl without it but it does help them learn to crawl. They are just strengthening their neck, arm, and front muscles.

Start with short periods of time, even if its 5 minutes a day and follow her cues, pick her up if she's getting too upset.

It takes time for a child to build up muscles.
As she has more tummy time more often they will slowly learn how to push herself up and then scoot around on her belly and roll over. After that crawling follows and you have your hands even more full. :)

You have nothing to worry about. I'd say she's a perfectly normal baby, I only know one baby who actually liked tummy time. None of my kids liked it when they were that age. They progressed when they were ready. My kids were on their back then they'd roll over, and stay on their tummy a few minutes before they'd cry. They started rolling around 4 months, but they learned on their own by being on their back. They sat up around 7-8 months, then from that position they transitioned into crawling. Every baby is unique, and they're is a wide range of "normal." Don't worry.

Speaking from experience (three daughters all walking) baby's all hate tummy time until they sort out rolling over. After that their opinion will improve a little and shortly after that they will start trying to crawl somehow. Depending on the level of screaming (so long as it's not scary purple face baby) I would just make myself leave her for a minimum of 5 minutes once a day. She will, eventually, get used to it.

Good LUCK!

Our daughter hated tummy time. It did not matter if we put her on a mat, with toys, shinny things, we even tried a "boppy" (she would just get mad, and then she would flip over). But in time she liked tummy time a little better...probably when she was about 5 months. Now that I think back...it was almost like she taught herself in stages, when her body was strong enough to support her sitting up by herself, or pushing herself up to crawl, that's when it happened. In two months you will look back at this and laugh as you are trying to catch her as she scoots across the floor! I tell ya, those little buggers can move out!!!

If you really want her to have tummy time and not have to worry about her crying, maybe try laying her on her side... or even propped with a pillow underneath one side of her back so she's semi on her side... that might make her want to roll over onto her stomach.

Every baby is different, and she may never even crawl! Some babies go straight to standing/walking and skip the crawling stage!

Good luck!

My son hated tummy time as well. We still did it for small increments of time - but not the 30 minutes per day as recommended. I worked on getting him to roll over and once he could do that, tummy time wasn't so traumatic for him. Now that he can hold himself up (6 months) he doesn't mind being on his tummy at all. Now he just gets frustrated because he wants to move forward!

each infant is distinctive!! My now 7 month previous hated being on his decrease back! He might in hassle-free terms sleep on his tummy or area, & if he rolled onto his decrease back, he might awaken & panic!! over the years as he's getting older now, I basically allowed him to place there until eventually he found out a thank you to roll decrease back onto his tummy! Which he does basically superb now, & rather doesnt ideas decrease back time! (luckily) I even had a son that refused to flow slowly! He rolled everywhere he needed to be, then basically pulled himself up! He by no skill as quickly as crawled! yet thats ok too! in case you infant doesnt like it, attempt to alter it up some. positioned some flashy toys in front of her that she likes. She could attempt to advance her head to seem at them. If that doesnt artwork, then provide it a month or 2 & resume tummy time back, then! She could react in a distinctive way further down the line there. Its ok. Dont sweat the small stuff! it is going to all artwork out interior the top anyhow! savor her at an analogous time as she's nevertheless small! Have a great day!

Don't sweat it. Just put her on her tummy and when she decides she's done, take her off her tummy. My daughter has always hated to be on her tummy, and she's 5 months old now and can roll over both ways.
