Learning about characters helps us learn about ourselves. Harry potter books have great characters. How they deal with situations and how you as a reader react to the situation helps in the process of problem solving.
Even though the characters use magic, it has its limits as well.
I saw a couple of movies and did not think much of them. then I ended up seeing all 4 and began to develop some interest. Then about 6 months ago I was bored and got the audio-book of book 5. Jim dale did such a great job I went back and listened to all 6 books. When you have a boring job like I do, it was a great way to fill 80 hours or so! I am married and in my thirties and think they are fun.
I am now looking forward to finishing the series.
So in general I don't find them dumb.
However if you buy a cloak and a wand and end up like the star wars nerds of my age group, then you are a fool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most likely in 15 years you will have a positive view of the harry potter era. Your rebel years will be over.
It will be linked to your generation like star wars was to mine.
I hope you do not have as many freaks to deal with though!

No I do not think that harry potter is dumb I am an adult and I love to read harry potter and the movies just because some one you know is into some thing that you are not does not mean it is dumb it may be dumb to you but not to your friend and that does not mean that this friend is obsessed with harry potter and you should not judge him or her for it you can have your opinion about it but let your friend be the judge of what he or she thinks is dumb and isn't dumb not you some friendly advice for you on that, you want to be careful with how you talk to your friend about this they may decide to not be around you any more if you judge them for them liking harry potter so much.

did you read harry potter?
I personally don't think it is a book to be "obssessed" about.
it is not one of the greatest, deepest books ever written- but it is definetly an enjoyable read.
the world she created, the way she wrote it, and what she wrote in it is very capturing, and once you lift the book I cannot put it down. you are somewhere else. and I admire that quality of the book, and the wholeness of the world she creaeted.
I admit that once I reach the end of the book, and realise I don't have the rest to read, I also realise that the time I spent reading this book I could have done something better.
but not really. because the feeling of being captured- is worth the whole experience, if not the experienc itself the book takes you through.
I had a long debate about this with myself. it took me time to appriciate the books as a literary work. but I do now, I think because I am no longer just a kid.
I also think the writer has evolved.

Maybe you should read the books and then you'll make up your mind. I'm 36 and I've been reading Harry Potter from the very first book, I'm fascinated by how the stories 'grow up' with the main character, I mean, the 1st one is by no means equal to the 6th one, more mature, more adult. My son who is 10 had no problems reading the first 3 books, but the others were a bit more complex and he took a bit more time to finish and really understand them. Try them, I'm sure you'll become a fan too..

There's a lot of dumb stuff in Harry Potter but overall it's a thumping good story. Harry Potter is not just for kids. The storyline is actually more sophisticated than a lot of literature written for adults. But it's okay to not like it. There's no book that everybody will like.

Well you're kinda wierd then. Most older kids like it. The kids in the book are high school age, not little kids. If you think it's dumb then that's fine but you shouldn't be mean to your friend about it, I mean most people like it. Just because you're wierd that way doesn't mean your friend needs to suffer

Um, no. Harry Potter's first two book were in the children's section, but the rest are in the young adult and adult sections.
I think you should read more, sweetheart. Then maybe you could improve your spelling.

personally i think that no one is too young for harry potter. i am in love with the harry potter book series and i am definitely not in high school anymore. even my grandparents enjoy reading them. its main focus is for a younger crowd but it can be enjoyed by people of all ages. if its not your cup of tea, thats fine; i know people that dont particularly like harry potter, but dont give your friend a hard time for something he or she enjoys. they dont do that to you with things you like do they? everybody is different and thus the things we like are bound to be different too. :)
