It is the roman name for athena who was the goddess of wisdom and war. It is also the first name of professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter books, so if you use now it may seem trendy and based on pop culture and not ancient pop culture.

I like it. It has roots in Greek mythology; Minerva is another name for Athena, who was thought to be the goddess of war and wisdom.

sounds good to me...since minerva is another name for athena it equals wisdom and of course you want a smart girl! even professor magonagall or however you spell it in harry potter has a first name of minerva. it sounds a lil seroious for a kid but min or minnie would sound cute for short

No way man!
Sounds too much like:

Elvira,
Medusa,
and something creepy out of a witchcraft horror book series.

Please.
If you want something creative and gothic - Try Lillith.
I LOVE that name!
