I have a friend that was wondering with the grades that he has if he will be able to get into certain UC schools that is not with Riverside or Mercede. Here are his GPAs throughout the year

Freshman: 3.8
Sophmore: 3.4
Junoir: 4.3

THose are weighted (all honors and AP except for two classes each year are regular) and SATs are about 1710 but he is retaking them again in hopes for a higher score. And do the college admission focused more on junoir year or the high school years all together.

I'm gonna assume he's white since you said he helped out at temple.

First thing to remember is to toss that Freshman score. UC's don't count your freshman year. So, that drops his GPA down some. Still a decent GPA. SAT is pretty crappy though. Extra currics are on the wimpy side too. I'd toss out Berkeley, UCLA and San Diego easily. He's got a shot at the Davis, Irvine, Santa Barbara group, but I'd certainly apply to Riverside and Santa Cruz/Merced as backups with that SAT score.

I like how these clowns seem to know what is going on when they have no idea what is goin on.

I am currently a UCSB student. I got accepted into UCLA, UCSC, UCD, and University of Washington, Seatle. While I didnt apply to UCB, UCR, or UCM, i'm sure i would have gotten in.

Here is what i have seen the last few years. While its true that college admission is more focused on junior year and senior year, it would have to be that those last few years, the classes u have taken have to stand out much more than the ones in your sophmore year. I had two AP classes in Sophmore year so at that point, it wouldnt have mattered if i had classes in Junior year. Seeing how you have a huge regression between Freshman year and sophmore year, thats really ugly.

You also have a very solid SAT score. However, it hurts him because he doesnt have a lot of extracurricular activities. "Helping out at elementary schol" is very generic. None of his extracurricular activities show that he has leadership or genuine things that he can bring to a campus. As for myself, i was a Tennis team captain, Red Cross community member, President of Math club, and various other things. These are the things that a UC is looking for.

He looks like a shoo-in up for schools up to UCD and UCSC. Anything else, looks like a coin toss.

The only hint i can give you is to tell your friend that during his application to talk bout how or why his GPA dropped from freshman year to sophmore year when he is suppose to be showing growth.

Anyways, tell your friend good luck.

Maybe your friend will be able to get in but remember that colleges don't just look at grades especially UCB does your friend have any extracurricular activities like a he's in a sport or he's a treasurer of a club and remember volunteering is also very good on an application...if they have all of this they should Be able to get into UCLA or UCB and yeah freshman year is disregarded but they look at sophomore year and junior year is the most important but they will look at sophomore year. Hope that helps

It looks like you are giving each year's GPA separately. Generally this number should be cumulative. I would be concerned that he took all honors and AP classes, yet his GPA has been as low as 3.4. Obviously, if he keeps up the grades from his junior year until mid-senior year, his chances will be greatly improved.

i admire how those clowns seem to comprehend what is going on whilst they have not got any theory what's goin on. i'm at present a u.s. pupil. I have been given prevalent into UCLA, u.s., UCD, and school of Washington, Seatle. on a similar time as I didnt follow to UCB, UCR, or UCM, i'm specific i might are turning out to be in. right it fairly is what I incredibly have seen the previous couple of years. on a similar time as its actual that college admission is extra concentrated on junior year and senior year, it might must be that those previous couple of years, the training u have taken ought to stand out a lot extra beneficial than those on your sophmore year. I had 2 AP training in Sophmore year so at that factor, it wouldnt have mattered if i had training in Junior year. Seeing the way you have an excellent regression between Freshman year and sophmore year, thats incredibly grotesque. you in addition to might have an exceptionally good SAT score. despite the fact that, it hurts him through fact he doesnt have a lot of extracurricular activities. "helping out at worry-unfastened schol" is quite regularly occurring. None of his extracurricular activities tutor that he has management or actual issues that he can convey to a campus. As for myself, i replaced right into a Tennis team captain, purple bypass community member, President of Math club, and assorted different issues. those are the flaws that a UC is calling for. He sounds like a shoo-in up for faculties as much as UCD and u.s.. the rest, sounds like a coin toss. the only hint i ought to provide you is to tell your chum that throughout the time of his utility to talk bout how or why his GPA dropped from freshman year to sophmore year whilst he's assume to be showing boost. anyhow, tell your chum reliable good fortune.
