I found I craved a lot of fruit during this pregnancy, especially at the beginning. I think that it was my body's way of telling me to get more fluids. The good thing is, fruits and veggies contain water, too. Not ALL of your fluids have to come from drinking. Really, you can drink anything you can stomach, but stay away from caffeinated drinks and alcohol (you should anyway!) because they are diuretics, meaning they'll cause your body to flush that water. Don't drink a lot of water at a time, just keep it nearby to sip. I found that I could drink certain brands of bottled water (Poland Springs in particular for me, but that may just be my tastes!) but others I couldn't tolerate at all. And tap water made my stomach turn. See what works for you. Another thing was cutting juices, sports drinks (like gatorade), etc. with equal amounts of water. They weren't so sweet and were more palatable that way.

BTW, if you're thirsty, it means you've already waited too long. You should be drinking all day before you even get thirsty. The body needs a LOT of water during pregnancy, and not having enough can cause preterm labor and other complications. The IV for fluids is NOT a fun thing!

Good luck, and drink up!

Dehydration will cause you to go into premature labor.

Water made me really sick at first, too. So...

I got a 20 ounce bottle of water, and started keeping it by my bed and carrying it with me around the house. Here's what I do, and it's worked...

Every time I have to get up in the night to go to the bathroom, I drink 1/2 of the bottle before I lay back down.

In the morning, before breakfast, I brush my teeth, and then drink an entire bottle.

I drink water with my lunch, even if I have something else to drink, too. I try to down at least a bottle of water between lunch and about 3 p.m.

In the evenings, I drink a bottle of water sometime between supper and bed time. It helps when you're watching TV... every time a commercial comes on, take 5 drinks.

It takes a lot of discipline, and when you don't feel well anyway it's even worse. But throwing up water is MUCH better than throwing up juice or anything else. And water will help your food digest faster, so you'll have less indigestion later in your pregnancy when the baby is pushing against your stomach. It's helped me a lot.

You won't be able to do this every day, but trying to drink at least 40 ounces each day, and 60 + ounces four or five times a week, will keep you from getting dehydrated right now. If you're in a warmer climate, you absolutely have to make sure you're getting enough. Otherwise, you're not going to feel well during this pregnancy, and you should be enjoying it... and going on with life, not looking out a hospital room window.

I had that problem too. What worked for me was to drink the water SUPER cold. I kept it in the fridge then would add ice. I also added a splash of lemon juice, I am able to drink it that way. Don't gulp it and don't let it get too warm. Try pouring little glasses (shot glasses or child sized) and drink it slowly and really cold. Then wait for at least 20 minutes before pouring another. Talk with your provider, tell her that you feel really bad because you can't drink enough water but it makes you sick. You need to tell her it makes you sick because if the nausea and vomiting are making you dehydrated, there are things she can do to help. If she won't listen, run, don't walk, to another provider, she is a doctor and has no right to be that mean.
I hope that helps you, good luck.

Being dehydrated when you're pregnant can cause you have difficulty producing enough amniotic fluid. It will also make you feel lethargic and crap.
If it gets real bad your doctor may want you admitted to hospital to be put on a saline drip.
You're doing the right thing by just trying to drink as much as you can and keep trying different drinks until you find one that works for you. Try taking little sips instead of whole mouthfuls. That might help with the nausea.

How much do you drink a day?

You are supposed to have like 16 glasses of water a day. It is a lot to drink, I know but you can do it . Also, did you know that everytime you are thirsty, you are dehydrated? it's dumb, i know. next time your doctor yells at you, say "But I'm not thirsty! So, i'm not dehydrated!"

Oh, and about getting sick...What kind of water do you drink? Some water can make some people sick. Whatever kind of water you are drinking, try another water. There are some minerals in water that doesn't clash well in some human bodies.

Hope that helps...

I was in the same boat as you with my second pregnancy,my doctor ended up putting me on a saline drip for 12hrs, dehydration is a big concern for both you and the baby as it can cause early labour, high blood pressure, lack of amnotic fluid which can cause your baby to suffer and can be very dangerous so I can see why your doctor would yell, water helps carry nutrients through your blood to your baby. It also helps prevent urinary tract infections, constipation and piles, all common during pregnancy

You are actually supposed to have at least 8 cups (8 oz) of water a day. Since water makes you feel sick then I'd suggest adding sugar to the water with ice, making koolaid, lemonade, drinking gatorade or powerade. There are also sparkling waters that you can purchase.

It's hard to keep it down when you feel sick all the time but always carry a bottle of water with you. I was amazed at how much I actually drank just having it with me in my purse!!
I also had morning sickness a lot and Gatorade helped keep me hydrated for that first 3 months...You may not like it but It was easier for me to keep that down than water...and it hydrates your body and give you electrolytes....
Well everyone's different but that's my suggestion anyway..lol
Good Luck!

You definitely need to drink more water. But you can also drink the sparkling flavored water. Just make sure it's not that diet stuff that has aspertame in it. I drank a lot of the Aquafina flavored sparkling water..I also drank flavored seltzer too. That helped get rid of my heart burn as well.
