No weirder than BMW being the maker of aircraft engines for German fighters that shot down many American planes. Not only that, BMW built those engines with slave labor from the Nazi concentration camps:

"World War II

BMW motorcycles, specifically the BMW R12 and the BMW R75 combination were used extensively by the Aufklärungsabteilung of German panzer [tank corps] and motorised divisions of the German Army, Waffen SS and Luftwaffe [German Air Force].

BMW was also a major supplier of engines to the Luftwaffe and of engines and vehicles, especially motorcycles, to the Wehrmacht. Planes using the aero-engines included the BMW 801, one of the most powerful available. Over 30,000 were manufactured up to 1945.

BMW also researched jet engines, producing the BMW 003, and rocket-based weapons. BMW has admitted to using between 25,000 and 30,000 slave labourers during this period, consisting of both prisoners of war and inmates of infamous concentration camps such as Dachau [3]."

It's the same company; Mitsubishi has been around a long time. Mercedez-Benz in Germany built military vehichles back in WWII, just like Ford in the US and every other company with the capacity to build vehicles did.
Boeing built the bombers that dropped bombs all over Japan and Europe, even the plane that dropped the atomic bombs, and everybody now knows Boeing for building airliners. More recently, GE was involved in making nuclear weapons, but they also make lightbulbs. And thats the company that says, "We bring good things to life." Same thing.

Mitsubishi is the name of the company that makes the car of the same name. I guess you are referring to the fact that they made the Zero in and before WW2. It is like General Motors and Ford making Jeeps and other war things here.. So it is not like they just decided to name the automobile last week... We have also had wars with France, 1750s, and mother England, 1770s-80s, and Germany, China, ect.. should we then not trade with any of these companies or countries.. Time to go forward while still respecting the past.

"mitsubishi" is Japanese for "three diamonds".

Which also accounts for their logo design:
