It's the same reason why you need to have a chiminey in your house to vent out dioxides. When you start a fire when camping you can see the smoke and harmful gasses but when you burn oil or gas you don't see the harmful smoke. The exhaust from your car gives out the same harmful smoke but it's clear and in a gas form. If you have this in a non-vented area. Your garage will fill with this gas and you'll get light headed. The light headed-ness will cause you to pass out (lack of oxogen to the brain) then you'll eventually die becuase you won't be breathing enough oxogen. i own a repair shop,and the carbon monoxide will kill you ,and you wont realize its getting to you that much until its too late, i have got real sick off the fumes from having one run a few minutes in the shop without having the pipe hooked up to it ,but this will kill you or leave you with permanent brain damage ,its not safe at all,always remember to vent the area good if one is running,good luck,i hope this help,s.
