It's perfectly understandble why you are afraid. I'm also afraid to get my liscence and drive. But since you experienced a car crash, you now know the consiquences(srry forgot how spell it)of what could happen if you drive irresponsibly. So now you know how to be careful while driving. Don't let the car cash get in the way of you learning to drive. Be positive. The past is the past. Its over. Just becareful while you drive. Be positive. Who knows, you may be a better driver then you thought = D. Hope this helps.

I was hit by a drunk driver head on at age 35, and the 21 year old died. I almost lost one of my legs and almost died. I totally relate to what you experienced, and it is extremely traumatic – especially likely even more for a young person. I also seemed to be more sensitive to car accidents growing up with my parents in a couple of their minor accidents as well. When I learned to walk again after my crash, I remember when I first got back behind the wheel again, and I couldn’t believe how scared I was to drive, being a ‘seasoned’ driver and all. I did though, first driving at a crawl, like a 100 year old woman! Eventually, I got back to my old self, and don’t think about the big crash any more (despite the hip pains I have that will likely remain). However, I do practice caution like not driving on Friday late nights through the wee hours of the mornings on the weekends, because that’s when the heavy drunks are out trying to drive themselves home at two, three, or even four in the AM (I had a newspaper driver route at the time for a second job and that’s when I got into that accident). Just try to think about keeping in mind when you drive, during the best of times of days and circumstances like weather conditions. Be a defensive driver and find out how and learn it, and when you have done all that you can as a preventive approach, you will do just fine. In life, there are risks with everything, but if you do your ‘homework’ then you ought to fare much better without incident in the long run! Good luck to you, and be smart and brave – you can do it! Just know that you did everything right for becoming a good driver, and the sense of security will follow.

i can fully understand your being scared i would be if i where you
what you need to do is practice in a parking lot when there are no other cars around until you feel in control of the car and your fears then you move on to side streets with a few cars it will take time but you can do it after you get used to driving on the side streets you move up to streets with more cars after you are no longer afraid then get your license
and you can take to your friend and let him know how you feel and if he is a good Friend he will understand and give you the time you need to get over your fears

you'll do fine... relax and know that you are in control, drive careful and stay calm. You should constider taking a skid school course... professionals put you in dangerous driving situations and tell you how to safely get out without hurting yourself or anyone else.
