Paula is hilarious. I feel embarrassed for her when she's all drugged up and out there rambling. Simon just looks at her and thinks about the millions (and millions) he gets paid to be there.

She is the judge chosen to be empathetic. She doesn't have the background of Jackson or Cowell, but she's got name recognition from some hits in the 80's. She's good at what she does and that's keep the bad singers from slitting their wrists after the other two lay a "Dude, it wasn't that good" or a "I think you just sang your way into a plane ticket home" on them.

I'm an Aussie, so I haven't seen her judgement. Though I look at it this way. Was Paula Abdul really really successful? No. She had a few hits and then just dissapeared, so how much does she know about music and success in the industry. Not alot, I would think.

I think they're very astute and tactful. She tells them her honest opinion. We don't need three simons, Randys or Paulas. That would defeat the purpose of having three judges. The each give their differing views. None of them are there to be liked. They're there to judge the peformances they way they see it, which is what anyone would do if they were the judge/s. Also, it's easy to over generalize her judgments since people have made a halo effect of her kind personality and only percieve that acpect. But I've seen her be very straight forward many times. The difference is that she doensn't crack on them like Simon (not criticising Simon). One doen't have to give a quip to be honest. People assume you have to be brutal to be honest. If someone who's never workded on cars told someone how to fix a problem with one would it be valid? Since Paula has been a performer it wouldn't be analogous to that, so she has grounds. You have to take consider that music and singing are subjective at the end of the day and based on perceptions people are going to judge judge and his or her judgement at to what that think makes a good singer. If they like a certain judge the bias sways that direction, likewise for the oposite.

I do not like Paula Abdul because she is not truthful to people. I like Simon because he is straight up. He tells people if they can't sing.

I don't think she does a good job being she is sensitive and very emotional but if I was on there and know I can't sing I would love her because she lets everyone go through to the next round. If it was left up to her everyone will have a record deal.

Her favorite was voted off tonight, as she should have been Paula is an idiot and has no clue about talent.

I think that she does not critique them enough, she just tries to make them feel better about themselves. Simon speaks the brutal truth so I think it's a good thing that there is someone there to make them feel good about themselves.

I think she adds balance. The show wouldn't be the same w/o her.
