MySQL is fairly robust and really easy to use.
Postgres is more complex.

you can probably find a full application to serve your needs.
goto http://www.sourceforge.net
do a search.....it's amazing what people are working on. Keep an eye out for the last time there was activity on the project at sourceforge...some projects are a few years old, still relative, but you won't see any further development or new releases. I usually sort by how many downloads..........

postgres
All are free, and all are open source. Sqlite is the simplest of the three.
