If I preface a statement as a way to warn someone about what I am about to say.... what am I doing? What is that word? 10 points to whoever tells me the word I am thinking of the fastest... Help!

Let me give an example, maybe that will help... If I'm telling a story, and I stop and say "Just FYI, this is really gross" or something to that effect I am doing something specific... A lot of the answers given so far are fine, but no one has figured out the word I am stuck on yet....

So far the winner is disclaimer... It's closest. But not the right tense, and I wouldn't use "disclaim." The word should be one where I can say "Don't _____, just tell your story"

You're giving them a disclaimer.

OK. I get what you mean now. You are simply obsolute. This means you are certain and have the information organized. In other words, you are well prepared.

So what are you doing? The answer is " informing"

You can use another advanced word as " Rebuking"

You can also transform that word into " cautionary advice."

I hope I helped. TTYL.

\The word should be one where I can say "Don't _____, just tell your story"

Huh? Would dissimulate make sense to you? " Don't dissimulate. Just tell your story."

Don't refuse. Just tell your story. Don't be reluctant. Just tell your story. Don't be unwilling. Just tell your story. Don't deny. Just tell your story.

I believe the word you are looking for may be 'forewarn'.

Or it could be any of the following:

Alert, alarm, admonish, advise, apprise, dissuade, forebode, portend, premonish, tip, tip off.

caveat
or
cautioning

"don't caution me, just tell me your story"

"don't preface it, just tell me your story"

"don't read the disclaimer, just tell me your story"

"get to the point!"
