I remember last year in the tenth grade, I put so much time and dedication into my AP Art History class. I read and took notes and read my notes, so I was actually reading it three times and it took me a while to read everything. I would pull an all-nighter the night before to finish up on reading and was so focus that even with lack of sleep, I didn't feel tired and did well on my tests. When my others teachers gave me an assignment, I did not see it as a burden. I just did it without thought, and I always ended up doing a very good job. However, the last half of this school year feels like a burden. I just want it to end. When I get an assignment, I do it but I'm just not putting my best effort anymore. This mades me feel stupid. It feels like I can no longer think as sharply as I could a year ago, especially when it comes to writing english essay. Where did my motivation go? What should I do?

youre sick of working hard for the grades that other kids are getting with little or no effort.
by now, you've probably figured out the least amount of work that you can do and still get a good grade.
you sound really smart and its probably subconsiously pissing you off that other kids aren't doin squat.
you should get involved in a sport or something else to take you mind off school so its not all that you think about
it helps
good luck

I think what it is is that you've been in school pretty much most of your life. I'm figuring you probably started out in preschool right? So that was probably at about three. Now you're 16,17? So you've been in school at least 13 years! You're probably getting a bit "burned out" on school. I know my daughter did but she was in college so she took a semester off. Is it possible that you might be able to go on independent study for a semester? Independent study is where you get your assignments from the same instructors, you just don't go to class, all of your work is routed through the counselor's office, but you do the work at home at your own pace.
A number of kids around here do it, especially if they've been good students for some time....it seems to "jump start" their motiviation by putting the responsiblity in their laps. Sitting in a classroom for 13 years can get awfully boring...

I'm a sophomore in HS and I began dropping my grades with geometry as a freshman[teacher can not teacher, seriously, it's not a "the teacher can't teacher i hate her" thing, she is nice] and then this year I just got slower. I rarely do my homework, WRITING ESSAYS is getting to be such a burden!!I had a practice timed writing practice for the CAHSEE today, 6th period. and I wrote 4 paragraphs and the last one was TOTAL BS!!...I need help too.i think it's depression or something... & i mean i am not even thinking about other things like bfs or how i look or anything....my mind kinda went on blank.

let me first tell you tiffany, i can really relate to you as a teen. I gotta say.. it's pointless to go so far with an AP class. I mean what's the point, you don't even know why you're doing it! it's more than ok to be average or less than average. ---- I want my school to end too! you still get a few months good luck in finding your motivation. All nighter haha. at some point ppl just stop trying when they reach to a point that almost anything they do is good. bye tiff.

youre catching senioritis when youre only a junior. i have the same thing but ive had it since freshman year. youre probably dragging because your grades are good enough to get into college so you subconsiously think you dont need to try as hard anymore. well thats just my non expert idea. just find a way to keep your momentum going like setting up a system with your parents where they reward you for better grades or something until you turn in all your college apps. good luck, just remember not to fall off because junior year is the most important

I found school so boring, in the end I just gave up. When it came to my final exams I didn't try at all.
Now I'm 21 I regret it so my advice to you is to think of your future every time you can't be bothered.
You don't know it yet but there's a totally different world waiting for you when you leave school.
Work hard, you'll appreciate it in the end.

are you planning to go to college?
I would say try to think about your future after high school. the grades you are getting now are going to affect which colleges you get accepted in. if you get really good grades, they might even offer you alot of scholarship money. think of the consequences of getting lazy.
well of course everyone loses motivation after a while, but for me personally I just think about how my grades now affect my life in the future. colleges are gonna judge you on your high school gpa. employers are gonna judge you on your college gpa.
set a schedule to keep you on task. take short breaks in between study sessions.
anyway, good luck
