I'm considering two positions in Eastern Washington, one in Wenatchee and one in Yakima. I've been to both cities before but it's been a while, and anyway, I was a tourist and wasn't thinking about aspects of living there. Which has the best cultural and community life? Which has the more beautiful surroundings? Would you say that one was more liberal/conservative than the other? Thanks!!

Neither, but if you had a choice, I'd go with Wenatchee. I grew up in Vancouver, WA but visited both places. You'll probably get snow in Wenatchee. Yakima is hot and miserable in the summer. It's desertishie (if that is a word). It's more of a "farming" town then anything. Lots of berry farms. But in general I never liked going there. It's in the middle of no where. Wenatchee is at somewhat close to Seattle. It's also close to Leveanworth, WA. At christmas they have a town lighting where they light up the whole town the christmas lights. It's pretty cool. I've been visiting there since I was little, all throught high school and college. Good times for sure and close the mountain if you like winter activities. The northwest is pretty awesome and you will always find great hiking.

If my mind serves me correctly, I do believe that Yakima is more populated then Wenatchee, but you'll have to verify that. That could be a plus...good luck.

Yakima is nestled interior the junction of two fairly sized rivers that really are not to any extent further that conducive to boating. Rimrock Lake (about a 40 5 minute rigidity west) is the nearest boating lake. The Columbia River (at Vantage) is about an hour away. A 2 a million/2 hour rigidity over the Cascades receives you to the Puget Sound, the nearest salt water. To get to the Pacific Ocean is almost a 4 hour rigidity.

I think Wenatchee is your best bet if you have to get a job there.
